taking out the trash.

yesterday i was on my way to take the trash out to the community dumpster. i had three bags plus a large bag of recycling stuff. normally, i would have been grumbling about how "jen forgot to take the trash out the last three days on her way to the gym, etc.", but this time was different. i decided to mentally and verbally affirm (for an apparently unknown reason) that "most people are friendly and want to help me, and everyone is a potential friend."

sure enough, i had only taken ten steps on the normally 150-yard hike to the trash area, when a pick-up truck pulled alongside me and the driver said, "throw it in the back, i'm in a good mood today."

i was stunned.

he must have noticed my dumbfoundedness, because he went on to say, "i'm driving over there anyway, i work here, etc." until i was struck from my mini-trance and said, "OK, great. thanks!" before hoisting my baggage into the open bed of his truck. as the mystery driver rolled slowly away, i thought you couldn't ask for a better example of what i had just affirmed right before leaving the house.

just imagine if i did it every time!
