Immaculate Conception Church: Lowell, MA.

In our tradition of exploring the many incredible churches around New England, we recently came upon the Immaculate Conception Church located on East Merrimack Street.

This church sports some amazing architectural features and is a popular wedding site as well. It's very well-maintained, and is a great example of what appears to be an extremely gothic design. The interior layout can be seen at several other Lowell churches, including St. Patricks over in The Acre. Although we only went for the photos, the few people we interacted with were very nice, and most of them had been attending the church for decades.

Have a look inside:

Amazing, right?

  1. This breathtaking church is so Holy. The real presence is there. If you are Catholic please come home. We need more people of the 1030am Sun Choir. Voices need to ring out again in the rafters and down the corridors of time.

  2. On Christmas there are 1000 plus people in this church. The Choir comes back and there are 50 singers. The rest of the year attendance is down. This church is the most beautiful one in the area. The full height Apostiles line the back wall around a Marble enclave alter. There is a full heigth Crucifix and Blessed Mother with John against the side wall. The music is the Celtic Mass music. The outside does not really give a hint to what lies within. Come and check it out please.

  3. It's true that you can really feel a reverence inside the walls, especially when it's packed. The more people are there, the more energy there is, so we would agree that anyone interested should check it out at least once. The acoustics inside are tremendous also.

  4. I look at this church and sigh with frustration. Yes the facade of the church is beautiful and it appears that it is well maintained. But unfortunately, they destroyed the high altar, altar rails and covered what was probably a beautiful marble floor with carpet. What a shame.
